Moving MDUSD forward, not backward.

MDUSD has real challenges. No one paying attention would say otherwise. But we're making measurable progress, and I'm running to keep building on it.

I'm a parent, a coach, and a trustee. And I'm not hard to find.

My Story

Not theoretical. Real world experience.

  • 2012First elected to the MDUSD Board.
  • 2012–20Served two full terms, including as Board President.
  • 2025Recruited back to the Board to fill a mid-term vacancy.
  • 2026Handed my daughter her diploma at graduation.
  • TodayThe only Board member, and the only candidate, with a current MDUSD student. My youngest is a sophomore.

My wife and I chose to raise our family here in large part because of these schools. All four of our kids went through MDUSD, and our three oldest are now at public California colleges.

Long before I sat on the Board, I was on PFCs, Site Councils, and Booster Clubs. I've coached, volunteered, and been in the classroom. Everything I've done in MDUSD has been about creating the best opportunities possible for our kids, including my own.

"I hadn't planned to return to the Board. But when a vacancy opened up, community members asked me to step forward. I said yes, because I'm deeply committed to the success of this District."

MDUSD still has real challenges. The answer isn't to tear down what's working or turn back the clock. It's to keep building forward, with people who've done the work and know how to get results.

Where I Stand

Straight answers on the issues that matter

Students come first.

Proficiency is up 3% districtwide, and my #1 goal is to keep that going. That means extra support for students who need it most, including our homeless and foster youth.

Straight talk on the budget.

You may have heard MDUSD spends more than it takes in. That isn't the whole story: the District built a reserve of about $200 million in years when it brought in more than it spent. We've used it carefully, adding counselors, expanding reading support and vocational programs, and paying our educators fairly so we can keep great ones here. My private-sector experience and Berkeley MBA help me be a vigilant steward of every dollar.

Every family belongs.

Parents deserve a strong voice in their kids' education, and strong fundamentals in reading, writing, and math come first. I deeply respect religious freedom, but that doesn't mean pretending families of all types don't exist. I won't be silent when groups like Moms for Liberty try to drag our District to the extreme right with book bans and attacks on teachers.

Every graduate has a bright future.

Whether it's a four-year university, a community college, or a skilled trade, our students deserve real options. We've increased college readiness and expanded vocational programs, and I want to keep building on that.
